Held at the National Junior College (NJC), Singapore from May 24-29, 2023, the two PSHS campuses clinched Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards over 289 participants from 14 countries.
This year, co-organized by the NJC and the Singapore Ministry of Education, SISTEMIC is designed to bring together students of ages 14 to 18 from around the world to compete, collaborate, and innovate in STEM under the theme โDesigning A Sustainable Tomorrow.โ
The student delegates from the PSHS-Central Visayas Campus bagged multiple awards. Their Penguin-eering design to alleviate the heat buildup on residential districts secured the Overall Gold in the Design and Build Challenge where their HYDRO prototype or Hydroponic High-Yield System for Sustainable Crop Development and Rooftop Farm Optimization also won Bronze Award. Adding to the roster of winners are the PSHS-CVisC student team who developed the DILAW or Direct Identification of Bleach Using Low-Cost Paper Sensor for Assessment of Water Bodies which earned the Bronze Award.
Another winning prototype is designed by Grade 11 students of the PSHS-Main Campus entitled โIntelligent Food Organizer (INFO) Magnetsโ, which aim to reduce food waste due to spoilage by providing its users with information on the freshness of food using easy-to-recognize fridge magnets and time-based light indicators. This smart tracking system for food sustainability seized the Silver Award. Student participants from PSHS-Main campus also garnered Best the Engineering Product special award under the Design and Build Challenge wherein students from different countries have to communicate and collaborate together to solve a design challenge within 24 hours only.
Overall, the delegates garnered the following awards:
I. Design and Build Challenge (Main Event)
NICOLE CONRAD C. OBRERO (PSHS-CVisC)
Young Innovative Engineer (Overall Gold): PENGUIN-EERING (Using engineering to alleviate the heat buildup in SUS-City)
